I have to get most of my non-food stuff on-line because the local stores don't tend to stock the specialist
stuff I want to buy.
I'm lucky to live in Gibraltar because it's very easy to import stuff from abroad there. I've brought in a dress dummy, a "big board"
ironing table extender, vast quantities of coffee and tea, collectible china.... As long as I pay the appropriate duty (and the
parcels office always has a customs officer available) no one bats an eyelid. Things are trickier in Spain - I tried to have some eyeliner
delivered from America and DHL nearly had a fit.
So now I get most stuff sent to Gib.
Some of my favourite P&Q related retailers are:
The Craft Connection who sell from a vast selection of craft fabrics and threads
at very competitive prices.
Glorious Color who have the entire Rowan fabric collection including
Kaffe Fassett and other designers. Yummy.
Nancy's Notions who stock loads of cunning tools and gadgets as well as
sewing and patchwork consumables. Be warned though, the site is very slow.
Clotilde who also supply notions and have a few bits and bobs that Nancy's misses.
The Cotton Patch, a UK patchwork and quilting store - rather more expensive than
buying from America but it gets to me quicker!
More general sewing stuff comes from SewingPatterns.com who do exactly what they
say on the tin. I also love a few smaller specialist pattern sites including Christine Jonson Patterns
and the wonderful Folkwear!
I buy books from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk of course, but also
from Play.com whose prices are slightly higher but whose postal charges are much lower - and they send out each bit
of your order separately. I also buy secondhand books from Abebooks.co.uk.
Most Ebay sellers seem to be happy to send stuff abroad - even if they don't specifically say so, asking is
usually worthwhile.
Spanish coffee is generally good, however our family is addicted to Ethiopian Yrgachiffe in the mornings - it has a high caffeine content - which I
buy from Hasbean. My daughter and I also adore Indian Spiced Tea, and we get the teabags from
Natco. Try some, it's delicious!
